New Chelsea additions Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell may both have to wait for their debuts for the Blues as they are injury doubts for the PL trip to Brighton on Monday 14 September. Hakim suffered a twist in his knee in a friendly with Brighton last week, while Ben was struggling with a heel injury when he signed from Foxes last month.
Ziyech is almost certainly out of the PL opener with the Seagulls, with his return date as yet unknown, while Chilwell is back in training but stays a doubt for the trip to the south coast. Ben started training at Cobham this week but has been forced to do so alone due to the injury, so stays some way from being game fit.
‘I’m feeling really good,’ England international told Chelsea’s official website last week. ‘The injury is healing really well and I’ve been doing a lot of fitness work over the past four or five weeks.’
Defender Reece James is also a doubt for the opening PL game of the campaign after pulling out of the England Under-21 squad this week due to injury. It is thought to just be a knock and Reece is unlikely to be out for long, but Chelsea manager does have doubts on both sides of his back four going into the campaign.
Christian Pulisic is also recovering from a hamstring injury, which leaves him a doubt for the Brighton trip, while Mateo Kovacic is suspended. New additions Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva could all feature.
