Tottenham are interested in a move for Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger, but either a permanent or loan deal seems unlikely to be done before the transfer window closes. Jose Mourinho is keen to add a centre-back to his squad before the window slams shut on 5 October and Germany international has emerged as a potential addition.
Antonio has fallen out of favour at Chelsea under Frank Lampard, yet to make an appearance for the London club this campaign and only making it onto the substitutes’ bench once. In his place, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva and Fikayo Tomori have all played at defence for Blues so far this season.
Spurs are keen to take advantage of the situation and that the footballer would be keen on a loan move away from the Blues, with the European Championships next summer and a place in Germany squad on the line. However, Blues are unlikely to want to strengthen a PL rival, with Spurs possible rivals to the Blues for a UCL place at the end of the campaign.
There may also be a way back into the first team at London club for the 27-year-old after a shaky start at the back for Chelsea this campaign. Chelsea found themselves 3-0 down to newly-promoted West Brom on Saturday, fighting back to earn a 3-3 draw, but the pairing of Christensen and Silva looked far from secure.
Christensen has already been sent off this campaign, in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, and Antonio Rudiger could push for a return to the first team if the London club don’t improve at the back.
