The German manager says he is a ‘bit worried’ about Trevoh Chalobah after the centre-back was forced off injured in the victory over Watford. U21 England international was named in the London giants starting line-up that included six changes to the side that drew with Man United at the weekend.
With Saul Niguez replaced at half-time, Chalobah was pushed into midfield in the second half but was replaced only 15 minutes later with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. Despite a performance that was below their usual standards, the Blues sealed a 2-1 victory over Watford that ensures the top of the PL.
Thomas Tuchel insisted he would not dwell on the performance for too long but did admit Trevoh’s injury was a big concern heading into the hectic festive period. ‘The next game on Saturday, the most worried I am is about the injury for Trevoh Chalobah,’ the German coach said.
‘The doctor was on the pitch 20 times today, it felt like. It’s a big loss from Trev. I’m a bit worried.’ The 22-year-old defender also tweeted shortly after leaving the pitch. The Blues were already without Reece James, Kante, Kovacic and Chilwell for Wednesday’s match.
Werner and Jorginho, deemed potential doubts this week, remained on the bench at Vicarage Road. Saul Niguez, who joined the Blues on loan from Atletico Madrid over the summer, was handed only his second PL start at Vicarage Road on Wednesday night.
