Sporting Director confirm Liverpool interest to complete the deal for highly-rated defender

Liverpool are plotting a move for Borussia Dortmund and Serbia defender Neven Subotic, according to reports.

The Independent reports that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is keen for a reunion with the Dortmund centre-back, with the German insisting there is no agreement in place preventing him from raiding his former club.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director also revealed: “Neven is not happy [at Dortmund], and there are strong indications that he will say his farewells in January. Klopp wants to take him to Liverpool.”

The 6ft 3in Serbia international spent time with Klopp at FSV Mainz, before joining his former boss at the Westfalenstadion back in 2008.

Subotic was part of the back-to-back Bundesliga winning BVB outfit of 2010/11 and 2011/12 and also starred in the club’s run to the Champions League final in 2013.

The report mentioned above Subotic will cost the Reds in the region of £15million, and the 26-year-old would be a shrewd addition to the Liverpool backline.

Klopp’s men host struggling Swansea in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon and have the opportunity to move within three points of the top four with a win at Anfield.
