Giallorossi are reportedly edging closer to a transfer deal for Juventus centre-back and Gunners long-term target Daniele Rugani, who may well join instead of Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren. Italy international has accepted an offer to join Roma, with the two clubs now expected to finalise the deal in talks today or tomorrow.
If Daniele moves to Giallorossi, that could likely mean an end to the Serie A giants’ pursuit of Liverpool centre-back Lovren, linked as an alternative for the Stadio Olimpico. Rugani was linked with the London club in the summer, though a move just never quite worked out.
Still, with Arsenal turning to a more short-term option in David Luiz instead, one imagines they might have revisited a deal for the 25-year-old defender in the future. Liverpool fans might be pleased, though, with losing Dejan not looking the best strategy for them right now due to a relative lack of depth at the back-line.
Rugani joined the Bianconeri from Empoli in 2015 with a €5m deal. He is one of the best centre-backs in Serie A and a prominent figure for the club. Last season Daniele played 20 matches and scored two goals in all competitions. It is an excellent result, and he can do much more if he gets regular game time.
Italian centre-back has contracted with the Old Lady until 2023, and his release clause is nearly €25m. He also named in the national team squad several times which is already a big success for the footballer. Kostas Manolas joined Napoli this summer and Roma want to replace him with Rugani.
