Serie A giants in the battle for £80,000-a-week Man United defender

It appears Milan are in talks with Man United in their bid to secure a loan deal for Eric Bailly. Ivory Coast international has emerged as the perfect target as Stefano Pioli looks to beef up his defensive options during the second half of the season.

Currently embroiled in a tense title race with cross-town rivals Inter, Milan’s season has been rocked by the injury to defensive leader Kjaer. Denmark international was ruled out for six months in early December owing to knee surgery.

In addition to Simon Kjaer, Stefano Pioli has been dealt with another injury blow in the form of Tomori. The English defender has been ruled out for at least four weeks, leaving the Italians devoid of central defensive options. It has now accelerated the Rossoneri’s pursuit of a new centre-back in winter, with Eric emerging as a top target.

It appears Milan are well aware of Bailly’s struggles at Old Trafford, as the footballer has fallen behind the likes of Varane, Maguire and Lindelof in the pecking order. Injuries haven’t helped his cause either, effectively restricting his playing time at Theatre of Dreams over the past few campaigns.

The Rossoneri are now prepared to offer the 27-year-old defender the chance to potentially resurrect his career by joining the club on loan in winter. The Ivorian defender will be expected to deputise for the injured Simon Kjaer and possibly even emerge as a possible long-term replacement for Romagnoli.
