Roma enter the battle to £80,000-a-week Man United versatile defender

Roma are ready to turn their attentions to Man United centre-back Marcos Rojo are reportedly missing out on a deal for Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren. Lovren’s proposed move to Giallorossi isn’t going to happen this summer, with negotiations between the two clubs regarding a deal for Croatia international being put to a stop recently.

The Italian club are now going to turn their attentions to other targets, with these being Argentina international and Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida. Marcos has been out-of-favour at Old Trafford for some time now, and a move away from the Red Devils looks needed if it’s game time Rojo is after.

The 29-year-old defender was able to make only eight appearances for Man United in all tournaments the last term, with Norwegian manager opting to play the likes of Lindelof, Bailly and Smalling at the back-line ahead of the Argentine centre-back. Rojo helped Argentina to reach the playoff in the 2018 World Cup.

Given that Red Devils have managed to bring in Harry Maguire from Leicester City earlier this transfer window, Marcos chance of landing a first-team place at Old Trafford now looks slimmer than ever. Thus, sealing a move away from Man United may be the footballer’s best bet if he’s looking to reignite his somewhat stagnant career.

It’ll be interesting to see if Giallorossi completely ditches their pursuit of Dejan Lovren altogether and make their move for Marcos in the coming weeks, as the Serie A club seemingly look to strengthen their defensive options ahead of next month’s transfer deadline.
