Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos is high on their wish list, but they would have to beat Real Madrid, Blaugrana and Atletico Madrid to his signature. It’s clear that the Reds back-line is built around the excellence of VVD, but we’ve yet to see a defensive teammate truly establish themselves next to him.
Joe Gomez has the talent to go on and do that, whilst Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip always look like a mistake is only around the corner, so it’s understandable that the Merseyside giants might target a new centre-back this summer. Jurgen Klopp wants to strengthen the back-line during the summer transfer window.
Diego has been fantastic at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan all campaign, and he’s now 27, so this looks like the great time to make a big move, but Los Blancos and Blaugrana will both need to make a new addition soon.
Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique are getting older, while Sergio also came from Sevilla so it would make sense for the Los Blancos to come back there to find his possible successor. Real Madrid signed Reinier Jesus from Flamengo during the winter transfer window.
It could be a risky signing as Diego just arrived at Sevilla last Summer after a successful spell with Nantes, so he’s not exactly proven at the highest level. It’s also unclear how much Carlos might cost at this point, but it could be a tricky one for the Merseyside club to pull off with the three biggest teams in Spain also looking to make a move.
