The London giants have announced the capture of Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell on a five-year contract. The 23-year-old defender has established himself as one of the finest left-backs in the PL during his five years at the King Power Stadium and he arrives at London club with 11 England caps to his name.
Foxes had hoped to raise as much as £70m from Ben’s departure but they accepted nearly £50m given the unique circumstances of this summer’s transfer market. Speaking after his arrival, Chilwell expressed his happiness at joining the London club at such an ‘exciting’ time.
‘I am delighted to be joining Chelsea at this very exciting time for the club,’ said England international. ‘I’m looking forward to being a part of this young, dynamic squad led by Lampard as we challenge for honours next season.’
‘I can’t wait to get started and hopefully it won’t be long before we’re playing in front of the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge.’ The English defender becomes Chelsea third summer signing after the arrivals of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
The English manager hopes to make further additions to his squad and the club are confident of signing PSG captain Thiago Silva on a one-year contract.
Speaking after Ben’s signing, Marina Granovskaia says the club are confident that Chilwell can adapt ‘very quickly’ to life in Chelsea. ‘We are very pleased to have completed our third addition to our exciting squad for the coming season,’ said Granovskaia.
