Sevilla centre-forward Wissam Ben Yedder is reportedly hours away from clinching a summer transfer to Monaco. France international had been linked several times with Man United before the transfer window closed for Premier League clubs.
Wissam was linked with the Red Devils in what could have been a decent move to help them replace the departing Romelu Lukaku. However, with Belgium international leaving for Inter Milan so late on in the transfer window, it is perhaps unsurprising that Man United could not get Ben Yedder or any other striker in on time.
Still, the 29-year-old centre-forward could have been a decent option to revisit in winter, though it now seems that won’t be possible as his move to Ligue 1 club looking very close. Last season French striker played 54 games, scored 30 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions.
It’s hard to understand why Red Devils didn’t perhaps get this deal done earlier in anticipation of Romelu’s exit, but fans will hope they can find someone else to give them more depth upfront once the transfer window re-opens in winter.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both shone in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Chelsea, but one imagines relying on two teenagers without the most prolific scoring records in their careers might be a tad risky throughout a whole season.
Monaco had terrible consequence in Ligue 1 as they finished the tournament in a 17th position. Les Monegasques already signed Gelson Martins from Atletico Madrid, Benjamin Lecomte from Montpellier, Henry Onyekuru from Everton and Ruben Aguilar from Montpellier during this summer.
