Red Devils are preparing a £150,000-a-week deal offer for Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez, according to reports. The Norwegian manager is determined to strengthen his options in midfield this summer despite Bruno Fernandes flourishing following his arrival at Theatre of Dreams in winter.
Red Devils have expressed interest in signing Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish and Leicester City attacker James Maddison, although both deals have become more unlikely in recent weeks. As a result, Red Devils have turned their attentions elsewhere and are now set to revive their interest in Spain international.
Man United were linked with a move for Saul last summer and believe the time may be right for another swoop after Atletico Madrid’s shock UCL exit. Niguez is regarded as one of the most talented footballers in Europe and is said to be considering his future in Atletico Madrid.
It is claimed Red Devils are set to hand the Spaniard a deal worth £150,000-a-week and believe he would be tempted to leave in order to play alongside the likes of Bruno and Pogba. Following La Liga giants defeat to RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals of the UCL, the 25-year-old midfielder said: ‘It hurts to lose, but our rivals were better in the game.’
Despite targeting Niguez, Red Devils still appear to view Jadon Sancho as their first-choice transfer target. Borussia Dortmund have warned Man United off a move for England international but Rio Ferdinand has urged his former club not to give up in the transfer pursuit. Red Devils face Spanish club Sevilla in the semi-finals of the UEL.
