Red Devils are ready for key negotiations with Tahith Chong’s representatives this week as Man United bid to thwart interest from Juventus. U21 Netherlands international is out of the deal at the end of the campaign and is free to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs in winter.
Tahith stays on a basic wage at Theatre of Dreams, but Red Devils have already offered to hugely increase his salary to a figure that could reach £25,000-a-week with bonuses included. Chong had already decided to move on are wide off the mark, but Man United still face a battle to convince the attacker to remain at Old Trafford.
Red Devils are confident the 19-year-old winger will eventually sign a deal and that Man United can point to his integration this term into the first team as a signal of his progress. The Dutch forward has played four games so far this campaign and is likely to feature in both of remaining UEL games following their qualification for the last-32.
The Norwegian manager has made the promotion of academy prospects a central aspect of his tenure and Tahith is viewed as one of the most promising. Though Chong’s yet to shine in the first team, Red Devils stay convinced that he has what it takes to make it.
Bianconeri’s policy of snapping up out-of-contract talent has proved fruitful in recent years, and they made a hefty £89m in allowing Paul Pogba to come back to Man United in 2016. But Red Devils feel Tahith Chong is on the right track and they accept that his failure so far to impress in the first team.
