Red Devils have reportedly offered Nemanja Matic a new contract worth £140,000-a-week as negotiations over his future continue. The 31-year-old midfielder’s current contract was due to expire at the end of this campaign, but Man United triggered a clause in his deal to keep him at the Old Trafford for a further year.
That came just months after Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had decided that Nemanja’s future was not at the Theatre of Dreams, with the midfielder ready to move on. And now, Matic is ready to extend his stay even further and earn £140,000-a-week. He is a regular member of the national team and also played in the 2018 World Cup.
A source said: ‘It was only announced earlier this week about the extra 12-months on his deal. Ole and Nemanja have had a chat, and he’s been told the plan for the future. Solskjaer will also speak to the board. He needs to keep up his form on the field. He will also get a small bump up. It’s been a brilliant return to form really.’
Serbia international is thought to be settled in Man United and is keen to stay with his wife and young family. There had been interesting from Italy, with both Inter and AC Milan keen on luring him to Serie A. But it’s expected the Serbian midfielder will be part of Red Devils squad for years to come to a real turnaround from four months ago.
