Man United missed chance to sign €130m-rated La Liga centre-forward

Red Devils did try to add a superstar centre-forward in the summer transfer window and reportedly approached Antoine Griezmann before he signed for Barcelona. A Norwegian coach has been left short of firepower this campaign after letting both Lukaku and Alexis leave Man United without bringing in any replacements.

After starting the campaign with a thumping win against Chelsea, Red Devils form has tailed off with injuries to Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford robbing the side of a goal threat.

Man United are expected to move for a new centre-forward in the winter transfer window, with the likes of Juventus attacker Mario Mandzukic and Lyon striker Moussa Dembele mooted as targets.

Red Devils were braced for Romelu’s departure from spring onwards and set their sights extremely high when looking for a replacement, making contact with France international’s camp. Antoine completed a €120m move from Atletico Madrid to Camp Nou in summer in what was one of the worst kept secrets in football.

Though that did not stop Red Devils bosses from making a final check on Griezmann before the contract had been announced to see if he might be tempted to move to Man United; evidently, he was not. Red Devils were also heavily linked with free agent Fernando Llorente during the summer, who eventually joined Napoli.

The failure to replace Belgian striker, as well as Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini, was a hot topic among the footballers and reportedly ‘raised eyebrows’ within the squad. French superstar helped the Les Bleus to win the 2018 World Cup.
