Man United keeping tabs with €60m-rated Serie A centre-back

Although Red Devils back-line has improved over the year, there’s still a feeling that a top-class partner for Harry Maguire could turn it into a real strength. England international tends to play next to Victor Lindelof who is perfectly capable, but he’s not top class.

Harry does most things that are expected of him, but he’s not good enough to scare the opposition’s strikers. Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly has been spoken about a lot, he’s defensively reliable, quick, powerful and right on the ball, so he could be perfect for the Norwegian manager.

Red Devils might be a step closer to signing him before they go on to claim he could provide Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with his very own version of Jaap Stam. They suggest that he would cost nearly £63m, so time will tell if Man United have that kind of money to spend, but crucially, Parisians have dropped out of the battle.

PSG have wealthy backers, and you have to think they will still be able to spend in the transfer market, so this could be a huge boost for the Red Devils. The report does suggest that Liverpool and Man City might also show an interest, but it looks like Man United are in pole position for now.

However, with the Italian side struggling to qualify for the Champions League, Koulibaly’s salary of £6m a year is reported to be ‘unsustainable’ for the Italian club and at 29 years of age, which Kalidou reaches on June 20th, it could be the club’s last opportunity to cash in on the world-class defender.
