Man United keeping close tabs with 22-year-old Serbian midfielder

Man United are reportedly keeping tabs on Valencia midfielder Uros Racic, who has been dubbed the ‘new Nemanja Matic’. U21 Serbia international made his La Liga debut on the weekend after impressing during a loan spell with Portuguese club Famalicao last campaign.

Uros helped Valencia to Copa del Rey glory in the 2018/19 season and is renowned for his work rate and defensive capabilities. Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already bolstered his midfield options this summer with the £36m signing of Donny van de Beek from Ajax.

Racic is contracted at Spanish club until 2022 and protected by a €100m release clause, but he may be available this summer for only £28m as Valencia attempts to balance the books amid its financial crisis. And the Red Devils are primed to capitalise with a cut-price deal for the 22-year-old midfielder.

Van de Beek typically plays in an advanced role, however, and defensive midfield is an area Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also targeting for recruitment. Nemanja Matic, a seasoned PL performer for Chelsea and Man United, is now 32 and likely coming towards the end of his Red Devils career.

Meanwhile, Fred has struggled for consistency and Scott McTominay for fitness, while Paul Pogba’s future with the Red Devils stays uncertain. The Serbian midfielder is also known for his technical ability and emerged from Red Star Belgrade’s academy four years ago.

His arrival would provide the Norwegian manager with depth in midfield as he prepares to balance PL and UCL football this campaign. Red Devils are also linked with Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale following their failure to make progress in their long-term pursuit of Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho.
