Man United keeping close tabs with 19-year-old French defender

Man United could make a last-minute swoop for Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile as the Red Devils weigh up bringing in extra quality at back-line. Man United were beaten 3-1 by Crystal Palace at the weekend in their first game of the new PL campaign, with Victor Lindelof in particular singled out for his sub-par display.

The Norwegian refused to point fingers after the defeat while Red Devils were expected to use the final two weeks of the window to bolster other priority areas, such as the ring wing, before addressing the defence at a later date. But that stance may have changed, as Red Devils could make a late attempt to try and prise Benoit away from Monaco.

Badiashile is extremely highly rated and Man United have been scouting him for some time, even reportedly making a move for the teenager earlier this summer. Red Devils offer of €25m was rejected at the time, but the French club are bracing themselves for another offer before the window closes on October 5.

There are huge obstacles that could prevent the deal, however, with U19 France international who is also wanted by Bayer Leverkusen, needing convincing to leave the south of France.

The 19-year-old centre-back has been promised a crucial role this campaign under boss Niko Kovac, while he would likely need to compete for a starting spot in the Red Devils back-line. On Red Devils end, Solskjaer knows he has far too many defenders on his books already, with the club actively looking to offload both Rojo and Smalling.
