Red Devils once again deployed scouts to watch Lyon centre-forward Moussa Dembele on Sunday night, only for the striker to be benched. Man United scouts have cast their eyes over U21 France international on multiple occasions this campaign, with Norwegian manager desperate to recruit a new frontman in winter.
His Red Devils side have been left short up top after failing to replace Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez after their summer departures to Inter Milan, while remaining senior attackers Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have both suffered injuries in the early stages of the 2019/20 season.
Moussa did come off the bench for the final 30 minutes of a 1-0 defeat to St Etienne but will no doubt be frustrated by his coach Sylvinho’s regular rotation in the front-line. Amid scoring six goals this campaign and being the second-highest scorer in Ligue 1, Dembele has found himself in and out of the starting line-up.
Sylvinho’s position is under threat after a poor start to the campaign has seen his Les Gones side languishing in 14th position in Ligue 1 table after picking up just nine points from nine matches. Red Devils could potentially benefit from Sylvinho’s rotation policy, with Lyon perhaps unable to command such a high fee for the 23-year-old striker.
It could also see French centre-forward actively push for a move, which would further bolster Man United’s hand. Club scouts have been impressed by what they’ve seen in the centre-forward, and he stays high on their list of potential recruits in the winter transfer window, with Red Devils chiefs desperate to deliver Solskjaer a new striker.
