Man United keep a close eye on €70m-rated Uruguay international

Federico Valverde has emerged as an option for Man United in the summer as they brace themselves for life without Paul Pogba. Red Devils have already started their preparation for the summer transfer window. The Norwegian boss is looking at several footballers who could possibly replace Paul Pogba next campaign.

Uruguay international shares similar characteristics as Paul, who, meanwhile, has voiced his desire to play for La Liga giants in the past, possibly paving the way for these clubs to sanction an interesting swap deal this summer. Valverde has a minor injury and he will return soon.

Zizou himself is a huge admirer of Paul and will likely be open to signing the midfielder who could be the perfect replacement for the ageing Luka Modric. His dynamism in midfield, combined with an ability to pick out long passes or sharp forward passes tunes in well with Los Blancos direct, counter-attacking style of football.

The event of the Frenchman’s arrival should also make it easier for Zizou to offload Federico. Valverde has had a difficult season in Spain, one that has been marred by injuries, ultimately restricting his game time to under 800 minutes of league football so far.

The 22-year-old midfielder, though, should be an appealing target for the Red Devils, who could require midfield reinforcements in the summer. Although Man United have had major success in the PL, thanks to great displays from McTominay and Fred, they need a long-term replacement for the ageing Nemanja Matic.
