Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to do a deal with Man United for the transfer of Raphael Varane in the summer window. Varane fits the profile of footballers that Red Devils are looking to pair up with club captain Harry Maguire, who has not had consistent partners since his switch to Theatre of Dreams in 2019.
During his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, France international has established himself as one of the most decorated modern defenders, having won four UCL titles along with three La Liga trophies and four FIFA Club World Cups. In addition, Raphael was also an integral member of the French national team that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Varane is ready to enter the final year of his deal with Los Blancos at the end of the campaign, with his current contract running out in the summer of 2022. While Real Madrid are willing to offer him a new deal, as part of which he will also be handed the club captaincy, the Frenchman is not happy with the terms offered and is open to an exit.
And, given that he has just a year left on his deal, La Liga giants, too, are now open to doing a deal instead of facing the prospect of losing the 27-year-old centre-back for nothing twelve months down the line.
Raphael has been a long-term transfer target for Red Devils, with the club having tried to sign him before he made the move to Real Madrid from Lens in 2011. Red Devils have continued to follow him ever since Man United’s CEO Ed Woodward was willing to splash £100m for the World Cup winner in 2018 but a move did not materialize.
