Red Devils have launched a stunning £46m bid for Ajax attacker David Neres, the tricky forward was instrumental to the Amsterdam outfit’s success last campaign. Man United face a difficult task to sing Neres, as Dutch club will only accept offers in the region of €70-80m for the winger.
Brazil international was close to agreeing on a new deal with the Jews which would have seen him become one of the club’s highest-paid footballer. David reportedly stalled on the new contract after learning of Man United bid for his services.
Man United aren’t prepared to pay this amount as it could land them in hot water with Financial Fair Play rules. The 22-year-old attacker scored 12 goals and provided 15 assists as Ajax managed to complete a domestic double and defy the odds to reach the Champions League Semi-Finals.
Brazilian forward was particularly impressive in Jews Champions League victories over European clubs Real Madrid and Juventus. Neres who mostly plays on the left flank is currently contracted until 2022. David’s amazing performances earned him a cap for Brazil’s senior team in March.
He also went on to win the Copa America with his country this summer. The winger has made five appearances for the Seleção. Norwegian coach should be looking to strengthen his wide options ahead of next campaign. Marcus Rashford has transitioned to a centre forward role, and Man United need quality options on the wings.
Anthony Martial has struggled to get himself on the pitch in recent campaigns. Attacking midfielders Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have looked unflattering when used on the flanks.
