Man United manager is set to battle it out with Chelsea to sign Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell with Luke Shaw’s future at Old Trafford in doubt, according to reports.
Although Man United have enjoyed an excellent run of form since the turn of the year which has continued after the restart they stay 34 points adrift of runaway PL champions Liverpool.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows Red Devils need to close the gap to the top, saying last week that Man United ‘will never stand still, we are always on the lookout if there’s anything possible.’ And now Red Devils have set their sights on bolstering at left-back, with England international emerging as a major target for Man United this summer.
Ole wants to build a defence that can challenge for the title next campaign and is ramping up efforts to sign the Foxes full-back, who has already usurped Shaw as Chilwell. The 23-year-old has impressed defensively and going forward this campaign, scoring three times and laying on as many assists for the UCL-chasing Foxes.
Foxes value the left-back at £60m though might hope to incite a bidding war between Man United and Chelsea while he already has a relationship playing alongside Harry Maguire, who left the King Power Stadium for the Theatre of Dreams last summer.
Luke Shaw, meanwhile, has been enjoying one of his longest runs in Red Devils team, starting their last 10 straight PL games dating back to February against Wolves.
Man United have been unbeaten during that period and kept seven clean sheets, with Luke Shaw delivering solid display, though the Norwegian manager appears to view the place as an area of the team that can be upgraded.
