Jonathan David could be ready for another interesting transfer saga, as Lille centre-forward has once again become a subject of interest from PL giants including Arsenal and Man United. Canada international was strongly linked with a move to England last summer, before he eventually joined the Les Dogues for a fee of €27m.
David was invariably brought in as the replacement for Victor Osimhen, who moved to Napoli for a large fee. Jonathan initially endured a slow start to the Ligue 1 season, failing to provide productivity despite being given a host of chances in the first team.
The 21-year-old centre-forward did, however, continue to perform well alongside the likes of Jonathan Ikone and Jonathan Bamba, creating a formidable attacking partnership. The Canadian striker was eventually rewarded as he netted his first Ligue 1 goal in November.
Since then, Jonathan has been involved in a total of 13 goals in 23 league games, with the striker’s displays helping Lille emerge as strong favourites for the league title. David even netted a crucial goal in the recent win over Lyon, helping Les Dogues retain their place at the top of the table.
Jonathan’s displays, it looks, have now put Arsenal on red alert, as Arsenal look to secure his services this summer after missing out on him last year. He is likely being courted as a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette, whose days at Arsenal could be numbered as Mikel Arteta looks to undergo a massive overhaul in the attacking department.
Primarily known for his versatility, Jonathan could be an ideal replacement as the 21-year-old can operate not only as a centre-forward but also as an attacking midfielder.
