Man United interested in signing 21-year-old Brazilian midfielder

Man United are preparing for a scouting mission to watch Flamengo youngster Joao Gomes. The report claims that two Man United officials will travel to Brazil in the coming weeks to scout the 21-year-old midfielder.

There is no clarification over how much Man United will need to pay to add Gomes or how much sum they have kept aside for him. However, Miguel Neto did claim that Flamengo are open to selling Joao if the right offer arrives in the summer.

The Brazilian midfielder is currently vying for a spot in the Flamengo midfield with on-loan Man United attacker Andreas Pereira. While the Man United loanee spent more time on the pitch than the South American midfielder last campaign, Joao has been afforded slightly more game time than the former this campaign.

Andreas Pereira, however, has not been convincing enough for the Rio Di Janeiro based club, who have the option to sign him permanently for €10m this summer. But as per Miguel Neto, it is unlikely that they will exercise that option as they do not wish to invest big in a footballer who has not been able to impress.

If Man United do like Joao eventually, the two clubs could come to an agreement. It stays to be seen if any possible deal will involve both the footballers or if Man United prepare a separate move for the Brazilian midfielder, which does not involve Andreas Pereira.
