Both Chelsea and Liverpool have reportedly cooled their interest in Borussia Dortmund forward Jadon Sancho, clearing the way for Red Devils to sign the winger this summer. The 20-year-old winger has been attracting attention from the Premier League giants thanks to his displays in the Bundesliga, enjoying a fantastic season for Dortmund.
In only 23 league games, Jadon has scored 14 goals and laid on 16 assists, contributing to a goal every 60 minutes, while he has also impressed in the Champions League. Man United are desperate to make Sancho their marquee signing this summer and had feared contest from their PL rivals, but now appear to have a clear run at the winger.
Blues and Reds have been put off by BVB’s mammoth £120m asking price and fear they cannot compete with Red Devils spending power. Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is Chelsea’s record signing at £72m, while Liverpool spent £75m on Virgil van Dijk, though buying a new forward is not as pressing a concern as either of those signings.
On England international’s part, he is believed to be drawn towards the prospect of developing his talent in Man United, while the Liverpool starting line-up could be hard to force his way into. The German boss already has a front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, with more options on his bench.
Former Liverpool centre-forward Emile Heskey believes the talent already at Anfield could be a problem for the English winger, he said: ‘When you look at the Liverpool frontline, you’ve got Mane and Salah as the goal-getters, and that is exactly what they do well.’
