The Red Devils are reportedly ready to reignite their interest in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer as they seem to offload Paul Pogba. Serbia international has long been on Man United’s radar and was agonisingly close to a move to Theatre of Dreams last summer, with Paul ready to depart to Real Madrid.
However, when Pogba’s move failed to materialise, Red Devils were forced to pull the plug on any deal for the Serie A star, leaving him stranded at the Stadio Olimpico. Sergej has made the most of his stay in Rome, scoring four goals and providing four assists from midfield in 24 Serie A games.
Milinkovic-Savic also helped Lazio climb to second in the table where they sit just a point behind Juventus. The 25-year-old midfielder’s displays this campaign have convinced Man United that he would be a solid signing and they are now ready to seriously step up their interest and bring him to Theatre of Dreams in the summer.
A move still may depend on France international’s future, particularly with the Eagles ready to demand £109m for the Serbin midfielder to leave the club. While Red Devils would hope to force that price down, they may face contest from Premier League rivals Chelsea to add him.
Frank Lampard was thought to be keen to make Sergej his first signing in January, although the London giants opted not to spend any money in January. Man United added several footballers during the summer transfer window like Harry Maguire from Leicester City, Daniel James from Swansea and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.
