Sergio Romero could join Aston Villa this summer with the Red Devils willing to include the Argentine goalkeeper in a deal to sign Jack Grealish. Man United are interested in signing U21 England international but Aston Villa have put a prohibitive £75m asking price on the playmaker’s head.
Red Devils value, Jack, at closer to £55m but the club’s initial offer of £45m, plus a series of add-ons, was rejected. With talks at an impasse, the Red Devils are willing to include shot-stopper Sergio Romero in an offer to persuade Aston Villa to part with Grealish.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper has provided back-up to David De Gea in the last five years but he’s grown increasingly frustrated by his lack of first-team chances after seeing the Spanish shot-stopper’s form nosedive.
The Argentine goalkeeper feels he’s now at a stage of his career in which he needs to play every week and the come back of Dean Henderson to Man United this week will only limit Sergio Romero’s opportunities even further.
Villa attempted to sign Aaron Ramsdale but the shot-stopper opted to join Sheffield, who needed a new stopper after Dean’s loan finished at Bramall Lane. Sergio is widely considered the best back-up keeper in the league and given Chelsea, Everton and Leeds are interested in the ex-Sampdoria player, it’s likely that Aston Villa would be keen.
Jack Grealish returned to pre-season training on Monday and is set for talks with Aston Villa this week to discuss his future, the Englishman is a boyhood Aston Villa supporter and though he’s desperate to play in the UCL, he’s unlikely to hand in a transfer request or to push for any move to threaten his reputation with fans.
