Red Devils met with Thomas Lemar’s agent at Theatre of Dreams before the covid pandemic led to the suspension of European football. The move to Man United was discussed for France international, who has massively struggled since joining Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2018.
Red Devils interest in the attacker almost exactly two months ago, their report adds that Diego Simeone’s side-parted with a staggering €70m to sign Thomas. With a second source now suggesting that Man United have held negotiations with the winger’s agent, it looks like Lemar may be a credible transfer target for the Red Devils.
The 24-year-old winger did help the Les Bleus win the World Cup before sealing his move to the Spanish giants, but things haven’t exactly gone to plan since his marquee switch. Man United’s rivals Gunners are also keen on securing the French forward’s signature.
In 67 games for La Liga giants, the World Cup winner has just managed to score three goals and provide six assists, with the winger’s form leaving plenty to desire Diego Simeone now uses the star in a much lesser role.
Thomas has just started 13 of his 24 games for Atletico across all tournaments this campaign, the winger has failed to provide a single goal contribution in these matches.
The Argentine tactician isn’t prepared to give up on the former Monaco forward just yet though, however, the club may need to cut their losses with the star if they fail to secure Champions League qualification this campaign in a bid to recoup financial stability.
