Man United enter the battle for 23-year-old La Liga centre-back

Man United are reportedly considering a swap deal as they pursue the possible transfer of Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres. The 23-year-old defender has shone in Spain in recent times and his fine form seems to be attracting interest from bigger teams, with the PL a potential destination for him in the near future.

Red Devils could try tempting Villarreal with an offer to re-sign their former footballer Eric Bailly, who has struggled to show his best form in his time at Theatre of Dreams. Still, it looks the Norwegian manager is not expecting much in the way of players moving in or out of Man United.

This could be ideal for the Red Devils, as it would give them the kind of defensive upgrade they need, without having to spend too much on Pau, as the defender has a £60m release clause that Man United would rather not pay in full.

Red Devils supporters will surely be hoping their club can pull this off, as Harry Maguire would likely benefit from a better partner alongside him after a shaky start to the campaign. Torres has also been linked with Gunners and the London giants are another team looking in need of making some changes to their squad.

Despite bringing in Gabriel Magalhaes in the summer, Spanish boss would surely still benefit from further additions at the defence, with the 23-year-old defender a clear upgrade on the likes of David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi. Red Devils may have the edge in this transfer battle, however, if Villarreal would indeed be tempted to take Eric back.
