Man United might be interested in bringing Nathan Ake to the Theatre of Dreams if they fail to land their top central defensive targets. Man United enter the transfer market with a list of marquee centre-backs, although they stay open to exploring the possibility of signing the Man City centre-back.
It is a well-known fact that Red Devils need a top-quality centre-back. An even more open secret is their admiration for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, with the defender himself seeking a new challenge this summer. However, signing France international might not be simple, with La Liga giants demanding £70m.
Additionally, Villareal’s Pau Torres also features on the Red Devils list of defensive targets. However, if the PL giants fail in their pursuit of any of their top targets, they might turn their attention elsewhere.
Among those names mentioned is one Ake, who plays for cross-city rivals Man City. Nathan has been one of the PL’s sought-after defenders since his breakthrough campaign with Bournemouth. His displays prompted Man City to spend £40m on him last summer.
For the Dutchman, though, things have not gone as per plans because of a lack of game time. Ake featured nine times in Man City’s starting eleven this past campaign in addition to another appearance from the bench. Nathan was also sporadically used in their UCL run to the final, featuring only twice all campaign.
The Netherlands international has, thus far, cut a frustrating figure at the Etihad, and this might indicate his need to move elsewhere for regular action. Currently playing at UEFA Euro 2020 with the Netherlands, Ake might decide on his future after the tournament, based on the offers he has then.
