Man United are planning a £40m offer for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, according to reports. The Norwegian manager is looking to sign a defensive partner for Harry Maguire in the upcoming window.
Villarreal defender Pau Torres and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde are also on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s shortlist but Red Devils are now pressing ahead with a move for France international. The Red Devils are lining up a £40m offer for Varane this summer.
And the report claims that the Norwegian boss has told Red Devils hierarchy that Raphael is the centre-back he wants to be brought into his squad. The 28-year-old defender will have just one year remaining on his deal with the Los Blancos at the end of the campaign and he is considering a move to the PL after spending 10 campaigns in Real.
La Liga giants, meanwhile, will look to sell the French centre-back this summer as they do not want to lose him on a free transfer next year. The Red Devils have recently attempted to sign the World Cup-winning defender during Jose Mourinho’s time at the club, but the centre-back opted to stay at Santiago Bernabeu.
Speaking earlier this week, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told the Red Devils board that new additions will be needed this summer in order to close the gap behind newly-crowned PL champions Man City.
‘If we want to take up the challenge with Man City we need to strengthen our squad,’ Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said. ‘Congratulations to them. They have had a fantastic season. I am very pleased with my boys that have made it to the last 10 days with a Manchester City side ahead of us that are lauded as the best in Europe.’
