Porto defender Alex Telles has urged the club to lower their £19m asking price in order for him to get his wish of joining Man United this summer. Brazil international is believed to have already agreed on personal terms over a move to Man United but Red Devils have had difficulty in agreeing on a fee with the Liga NOS giants.
Dragons value Alex at €20m but Red Devils feel that he is worth closer to £12m and negotiations have hit a stalemate in recent days with both sides unwilling to compromise. However, Telles is conscious that this may be his chance to get a move to Man United and he has intervened in an offer to force a transfer to the Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old defender has only a year left on his contract and he believes that Porto have set an overly-ambitious asking price that could price him out of a dream move to the north-west.
The Brazilian defender believes a fee in the region of £12m is more acceptable but Red Devils could drag their heels as they know the club need the money to finance a deal for Sérgio Conceição’s squad.
Alex has entered the final year of his contract and would be signing a pre-contract deal with non-Portuguese clubs from January 1st 2021 but Red Devils want the defender this campaign to provide competition for Luke Shaw.
Should Alex eventually sign, he’d become Red Devils second signing of the summer following the capture of Donny van de Beek and he’d allow Brandon Williams to move to his preferred role at right-back to challenge Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
