Man United closely monitoring 21-year-old Brazilian midfielder

Man United have been linked with Flamengo midfielder Joao Gomes for quite some time and the footballer is once again in the focus. Back in March, reports indicated that Man United were willing to offer nearly £33m to add U20 Brazil international but he could cost nearly £50m.

Even arch-rivals Liverpool, who desperately need to improve their midfield, are interested in luring Gomes in the winter transfer window. Joao has already played over 100 games for the Brazilian club and forms a top midfield partnership with Thiago Maia.

The 21-year-old midfielder has already won the Serie A and the Super Copa with Flamengo, who do not want to lose their prized asset. The Brazilian midfielder, who will be out of the deal in over three years, has already turned down many contract extensions and after the latest rejection, the South American club are looking to offload him.

The South American midfielder is mainly a play breaker, a position that the Red Devils had to reinforce in the last transfer window and they did by bringing in Casemiro from Real Madrid. So, for now, Man United do not really need to move in to lure another defensive midfielder.

While he has never been capped by Brazil, which boasts a wealth of talented and experienced footballers, one cannot help but think that were he to make a switch to the PL, it would only be a matter of time.
