Blaugrana are willing to sell Ivan Rakitic at the end of the campaign for €20m with the midfielder’s deal at the club expiring in 2021. Croatia international has been a consistently fantastic performer in the Catalan club midfield since arriving from Sevilla in 2014 and stays a regular in the first team, playing 31 games so far this campaign.
Ivan has played 299 games in total for Barcelona, winning four La Liga trophies and the UCL, making his initial transfer fee of nearly £16m impressive value for money. Man United manager wants to bolster the midfield during the summer transfer window.
However, at 32-years-old and with only over a year left on his deal, Blaugrana are set to cash in on Ivan in the summer rather than lose him for free in 2021 but are still looking to make a profit on him. There will be several clubs interested in snapping up Rakitic, who still has miles on the clock after only turning 32 last month.
Red Devils have regularly been linked with a move for the 32-year-old over the last year, but remain in Spain or switch to Italy seems more likely for the midfielder. Former team Sevilla are interested in bringing him back to Andalusia and are reportedly willing to offer him a four-year deal, amid his advancing years.
This could be especially appealing given that the Croatian midfielder’s wife is from Sevilla, but he would have to take a drastic pay cut to move back to the south coast of Spain, roughly halving his current salary.
