The Merseyside giants are monitoring Ezri Konsa with a view to possibly making a move for the Aston Villa defender this summer, according to reports. U21 England international has been one of Aston Villa’s crucial footballers this campaign having formed a strong partnership alongside Tyrone Mings at the heart of their back-line.
Dean Smith has a close relationship with Ezri as he signed him for Brentford before bringing to Villa Park in a £12m deal in 2019. In December, Smith confirmed that Aston Villa are ready to hold talks with Konsa over a new contract for his fantastic form.
But Reds have been keeping tabs on the defenders progress and are still looking to improve their defensive options this summer. The report also claims that the 23-year-old defender has attracted interest from Tottenham.
With long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, Reds bolstered their back-line with the signing of Ben Davies from Preston North End, while Ozan Kabak joined on loan for the remainder of the season.
Davies is yet to make his debut since making the move to Liverpool but Ozan Kabak made his first appearance in the 3-1 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday. The loss has left Liverpool 13 points behind Man City in the PL, while Pep Guardiola’s side also have a game in hand.
Reds have been venturing through different options in their hunt for the proper forward. However, Liverpool are the favourites among clubs who expressed their interest in Schalke attacker Matthew Hoppe. The 19-year-old American sensation remains in contention, who could emerge as the surprising element in the forthcoming season at Anfield.
