The Gunners are fearful Man United or Liverpool will make a move to poach Bukayo Saka, reports say. U19 England international is a rising star in Mikel Arteta’s squad but has entered the final 18 months of his current contract. Red Devils and Merseyside club are monitoring youngster and his ongoing contract negotiations with the London club.
As a result, Gunners will try and tie Bukayo down to a new long-term contract as soon as possible. Saka is on a £3000-a-week deal and could be in line for a healthy wage boost in a new contract. Bayern Munich are also tracking the 18-year-old winger, who has played 15 matches in the Premier League this campaign.
Unai Emery was the original manager to promote the English winger to the first-team squad, and Mikel is expected to give the teenager, even more, playing time in the final half of the campaign. Bukayo has played at left-back for the Gunners this campaign due to injuries to Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac but is naturally a left-sided forward.
The Spanish manager has already singled out Saka for praise since taking charge at Emirates, and the footballer has been impressed with his new boss. ‘Mikel’s trying to bring back the philosophy, the Arsenal passing way,’ Saka said. ‘Arteta said it would be better to score using fewer.
If we can score in two passes, it’s better. ‘We don’t need that many, but obviously, we need to move the ball and find the right spaces to attack, and they’ve done it well. I think the two goals were nice.’
