The Merseyside giants are weighing up an offer to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria in the summer transfer window, according to reports in Germany.
Injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip forced Reds into the transfer market this winter, with Jurgen Klopp desperately short of options in back-line, and Ozan Kabak followed Ben Davies through the doors at Anfield on a frantic deadline day.
But the Reds have since turned their attentions to bolstering in the middle of the park, with Gini Wijnaldum’s deal due to expire after five years on Merseyside. Switzerland international is firmly on Liverpool’s radar as a potential solution should Wijnaldum leave.
Denis is refusing to put pen to paper on a new contract, with his current deal due to expire in 2022, which has alerted several top European teams to the situation. La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid are in the race for Zakaria’s signature but Liverpool and Man City are said to be especially interested in a possible summer agreement.
The report suggests ‘all the signs are now pointing’ towards the 24-year-old midfielder moving on at the end of the season and the probability of the footballer remaining with Gladbach is rated at only 10 percent.
Reds have also been heavily linked with Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, with the 24-year-old Malian having an outstanding season on the south coast. However, it’s understood Bissouma would favour a switch to PL rivals Arsenal, who are also keen on the £50m-rated star.
