Liverpool leading the race to sign 20-year-old Bundesliga winger

Jadon Sancho would have to make do with a bit-part role at Anfield if he moved from Borussia Dortmund in the summer. England international is widely expected to leave Germany at the end of the campaign in a big-money move to Premier League, with Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea and his former club Man City all linked with his signature.

Jadon, who has scored 14 Bundesliga goals this campaign, is likely to cost around £100m, which John believes is too much for a footballer of his experience. Sancho made his Dortmund debut in October 2017 and has now made 89 appearances for the Bundesliga giants in all tournaments, but John believes he needs to prove himself further.

The former Liverpool, Newcastle and Watford footballer thinks that at this stage of his young career, the 19-year-old winger would be playing second fiddle to the likes of Salah and Mane. Red Devils have been identified as the most likely destination for the English forward, although Man City have the option of ‘matching rights’ if an offer is accepted.

Borussia Dortmund are likely to accept a huge offer for their young talent if one comes in, although chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke stays hopeful that he would prefer to remain. ‘I think he has the feeling that the team does have a good future,’ Watzke said earlier this month.

‘In my opinion, I don’t think he wants to leave.’ Jadon Sancho came off the bench in Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 win at Gladbach and is expected to feature on Wednesday night in the second leg of the UCL last 16 ties with PSG, after winning the first game 2-1.
