The Merseyside giants transfer target Perr Schuurs has responded to speculation over his future, amid claims Ajax could sell him ‘immediately’. U21 Netherlands international is reportedly on a shortlist of options being looked at by Liverpool ahead of the winter transfer window.
The Merseyside giants are expected to target a centre-back in winter amid the Reds worsening injury crisis. James Milner was the latest to join the casualty list when he suffered a hamstring strain in Reds 1-1 draw with Brighton on the weekend.
It is not yet known how long James will be out, but his injury is a blow given his versatility, as Milner having played in midfield and at right-back recently with several first-team stars having been absent.
But it’s in the back-line where the German manager really has problems, with first-choice centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both out for the long term after suffering knee injuries. That’s where Perr comes in, with the defender having for Reds UCL group opponents Ajax this campaign.
The 21-year-old defender has started all but one of his side’s matches in the Eredivisie and in Europe this campaign and is expected to face Liverpool in Tuesday’s UCL game at Anfield. The Dutch defender could be lining up for the Reds in the new year if the Merseyside giants are prepared to offer €30m.
Ajax director of football Marc Overmars will sell in winter if Reds meet the club’s valuation. However, Perr himself has downplayed any speculation, insisting he sees his future at Ajax as he continues his development.
