Liverpool keeping tabs with €30m-rated Dutch centre-forward

The Merseyside giants are reportedly in pole position to seal the transfer of PSV centre-forward Donyell Malen. The Netherlands international has impressed in his time in the Eredivisie, despite previously failing to make it at Arsenal as a teenager.

It’s not yet clear quite how much Donyell would cost, but he currently has a value of £27m. Malen could now be heading back to the PL as it looks like the Merseyside giants are ahead of other clubs in the battle to sign the striker this summer.

The report names Barcelona, Juventus and Milan as other clubs in the running for the 22-year-old striker, but the Reds would do well to win this transfer race and give their front-line the shake-up it needs.

It’s been a difficult campaign at Liverpool, and it looks like it’s time for the German coach to break up the successful front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Malen could give the Reds more of a goal threat after the dip in form from both Mane and Firmino in particular, so fans will no doubt hope this one can go through.

His age is a huge part of why the Reds signing makes perfect sense. At just 22, he’s still a kid and the German coach will relish the chance to hone his skills and hopefully see him follow in Mane, Salah and Firmino’s stead.

While he doesn’t have the highest defensive work rate and is relatively poor in the air, Donyell is an excellent dribbler, is hugely clinical in front of goal and is also great at holding up the ball.
