Liverpool keeping close tabs with No.7 Italian playmaker

The Merseyside giants search for a new playmaker has led them towards Lorenzo Pellegrini. The Roma midfielder has emerged as a possible option, with the German manager desperate to strengthen his options not only in defence but also in midfield.

It is no secret that the Giallorossi are currently suffering from financial turmoil and might need to cash in on a few of their star footballers. The Reds are intent on using this situation to prise Italy international away from Roma, although the midfielder’s future depends on whether or not Jose Mourinho opts to sanction a sale.

A product of the Giallorossi youth academy, Lorenzo initially made his name during a two-year spell at Sassuolo before returning to Rome in 2017, for a fee of €10m. Pellegrini has since emerged as one of the club’s key components in attack, notching up well over 150 competitive games.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been involved in a total of 55 goals in all tournaments while also winning 17 caps for the Azzurri. During his time with Roma, the Italian midfielder has established himself as a talented playmaker, who can not only create opportunities but also find himself in goalscoring chances.

With seven goals and seven assists, Lorenzo was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dire season for Roma this past campaign. It also earned him a call-up to the Italy squad for the upcoming Euro 2020. And it appears his displays have not gone unnoticed by Liverpool either, as they attempt to secure his services in the summer.
