Liverpool keep close tabs with 23-year-old African forward

The Merseyside giants have rekindled their interest in Ismaila Sarr. The Watford winger was linked with a switch to Liverpool last summer, but he ended up remaining at Vicarage Road, starring in his club’s successful season that ended with a promotion to the PL.

The Reds are now set to revisit their interest in Senegal international and are prepared to splash £40m for his services. Sarr himself is aware of the interest, even asking permission from the Hornets to leave the club.

It stays to be seen whether Liverpool’s £40m offer will appease Watford, but if the move is successful, Ismaila will the footsteps of Emiliano Buendia in the list of footballers who have moved to bigger PL teams this summer. The Norwich City attacker had earlier joined Aston Villa.

A member of the Hornets side since the summer of 2019, Ismaila was one of their protagonists in their promotion season last campaign. The African winger scored 13 goals while chipping in with ten assists. It made him one of the most productive footballers in the second division, alongside the likes of Buendia and Ivan Toney.

Much like Buendia, the Senegalese winger has the pedigree at the highest level of football as well. Before his arrival in England, the winger had featured in 90 Ligue 1 games while also emerging as one of Watford’s bright sparks in an otherwise dire 2019/20 season in the PL.

A move to Liverpool could make sense for Ismaila as he looks to unite with national team captain Sadio Mane. The two play together for Senegal, which should help the 23-year-old forward settle in quickly at Anfield.
