The Merseyside giants are among the teams keeping a close eye on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Lazio midfielder has become a hot property in the transfer market after a promising start to the Serie A season, thus garnering attention from a host of top teams around Europe.
The Biancocelesti are in no hurry to cash in on Serbia international just yet, though, and are expected to demand a hefty €70m for his services. The Reds consider him as a possible replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, but they are ready to face stiff competition from Juventus for his services.
A product of the Vojvodina youth academy, Sergej has been one of the top midfielders in Serie A for a few years now. Milinkovic-Savic is considered as one of the signature footballers for the Biancocelesti, having featured in over 250 competitive games for the Italian club.
In this campaign, however, the 26-year-old midfielder has been performing a level above his usual self, having already been involved in five goals in eight Serie A games. It appears the Serbian midfielder is thriving in new manager Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 setup, with the Italian coach expertly using him in the second line of press.
Aside from his productivity, Sergej has built a strong reputation for his work ethic, aggression and tenacity that make him the perfect fit in the German manager’s tactical philosophy. It is, therefore, not a surprise to see the Reds monitoring the progress of the former Vojvodina youth prodigy.
