The Merseyside giants are reportedly interested in Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite. Liverpool will join Man United and City this summer in the race to sign U19 England international.
Jarrad, who is currently on loan at Blackburn Rovers where he’s teaming up with Harvey Elliott, moved to Everton last winter but struggled to break into the senior club.
Carlo Ancelotti sent Branthwaite to the Championship to gain experience but hasn’t seen the same level of success as Liverpool’s young forward. Let’s address the elephant in the room, the idea of the footballer, at any age, moving from Everton to Liverpool is quite jarring for both sets of fans.
The 18-year-old centre-back does look to be a somewhat promising defender, highly rated for his time with Carlisle United in League 2 at a very young age, but it doesn’t take a cynic to see flaws in the rumour.
Liverpool have Rhys Williams, Sepp van den Berg and Billy Koumetio on the seems , who would all arguably be ahead of the Everton man if he made the switch over Stanley Park. Time will tell, Liverpool, but we don’t think it’s worth putting much stock into this one.
Ancelotti wanted the English centre-back to continue his development and recognized he needed regular first-team games so was happy to sanction his loan to the Championship. However, other clubs, including the Red Devils, are beginning to take greater note of Branthwaite’s potential.
Man United want a defender in the summer and will target one with greater experience such as Sevilla’s Jules Kounde but Branthwaite is on their radar as they consider the future also.
