Liverpool in pole position to sign No.9 Dutch centre-forward

The Merseyside giants are leading the battle to sign PSV centre-forward Donyell Malen with the German tactician looking to reinvigorate his attack this summer. Liverpool are ready to surrender their crown to Man City having struggled to maintain the standards they set last campaign when they swept all before the on the domestic front.

Goals, however, have been much harder to come by this term with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, in particular, failing to support Mo Salah who remains in contention to win another Golden Boot. Divock Origi, who has made invaluable, albeit, irregular contributions over the course of his Liverpool carer is set to depart in the close campaign.

And Jurgen Klopp is said to view the 22-year-old striker as the perfect replacement and Juventus are also believed to be keen in signing the centre-forward. Donyell came through the Ajax academy but was snapped up by Arsenal six years ago.

Malen failed to make a senior appearance for Arsenal but the Gunners were desperate to hold onto a player who now a fully established senior international. The Netherlands international has scored 17 goals in 29 league matches this campaign and is also coveted by the likes of Juventus and Barcelona.

The Reds, meanwhile, are already closing in on the signing of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, who could end up costing as much as £40m. Liverpool have suffered a spare of defensive injuries which undermined their title defence and are still without the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

Ozan Kabak was signed on loan from Schalke in winter, but a decision is yet to be made on whether he will join on a permanent basis.
