Liverpool in pole position to sign 23-year-old Spain international

The Merseyside giants are hoping to beat Barcelona and Real Madrid to the signing of Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz this summer, as they make him one of their top transfer targets.

After a tranquil couple of transfer windows, which saw the Reds spend no money on senior footballers last summer and only add Takumi Minamino in January, the German boss is expected to spend before the start of next campaign.

Spain international is one of the footballers they are looking at, as the player is now right at the top of the German manager’s wanted list. Fabian arrived at Napoli from Real Betis in 2018 and has become an integral part of their midfield.

Ruiz’s skills have attracted attention from Liverpool and the biggest clubs in his home country, while Man United and Bayern Munich are also thought to have been impressed by him.

The 23-year-old midfielder’s agent, Alvaro Torres, is well aware of the interest in his client, but with such big clubs chasing his signature, he has no idea how much he will cost his suitors in the next transfer window, with a bidding war possible.

‘There have been many changes in the team this campaign, it’s been a difficult year for Napoli,’ said Alvaro. Napoli reportedly paid €30m for the Spanish midfielder from Betis.

The 6ft 2in technician has played 21 Serie A games for Napoli this campaign, scoring twice and providing two assists, after managing five goals in his debut campaign. Serie A giants have struggled, by their standards, this season, currently sixth in Serie A, 24 points behind leaders Juventus.
