Kai Havertz is Liverpool manager’s top transfer target this summer, according to reports. Germany international is one of the most sought after youngsters in Europe and will turn 21 in June. A host of top clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool, have been linked with Kai, who is under contract at the German club until 2022.
Jurgen Klopp is desperate to sign Havertz and will make a move for him this summer. A sticking point for any deal is likely to be Bayer’s asking price for the 20-year-old star, which is expected to be upwards of £80m. Reds spent a small fortune on shot-stopper Alisson and defender Virgil van Dijk, but neither of those signings exceeded £77m.
If Merseyside club cannot match Bundesliga club’s demands, Jurgen is open to the re-signing of Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian superstar has struggled since leaving Anfield in 2018 for Barcelona and was shipped out on loan to Bayern Munich last summer.
Although the 27-year-old star has continued to show glimpses of his undeniable talents, Bavarians have reportedly already decided not to sign the playmaker permanently. Philippe produced the best form of his career under Jurgen, and the German coach tried and failed to convince Coutinho to reject Barcelona’s advances two years ago.
Merseyside club wisely invested the transfer funds from the sale of Philippe and are now on the verge of lifting their first-ever Premier League title. Japan international Takumi Minamino was Reds only signing in winter, but Liverpool are expected to be far busier at the end of the campaign.
