The Merseyside giants are reportedly ready to splash £18m to permanently secure the services of on-loan Schalke 04 defender Ozan Kabak this summer. It appears the German coach is delighted with Turkey international’s progress at Liverpool, since joining the club on a short-term loan deal from the Miners that included a buyout clause worth nearly £18m.
It is believed that the Reds fully intend to activate that option in the summer and permanently secure the services of Ozan, who is being viewed as a long-term prospect for the club. This is hardly surprising given the fact that Liverpool are prepared to add some reinforcements to the defensive unit this summer, after struggling with an injury crisis for the most part of the season.
In fact, both of their premier defenders in Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are not yet fully fit and might take some settling in after they return to the pitch next campaign. There are also concerns over Joel Matip’s long-term future at Anfield, as Kabak, too, has suffered from various niggles over the years.
The Reds other options include Ben Davies, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams, none of whom have a lot of experience at the highest level of football, with Davies yet to even play a single game since joining the Reds in winter.
It leaves the Turkish defender as the perfect long-term option for Jurgen Klopp, especially given how the 21-year-old centre-back has slowly settled in at Liverpool as well as the pace and physicality of the PL. He has looked better with each passing week, though his form has not coincided with the Reds return to groove.
