The Merseyside giants are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria. When Empire of the Kop quizzed Falk on any ‘Bundesliga bargains’ Liverpool may be keen on, the reliable Bild reporter fired back with Switzerland international’s name.
Ronan Murphy reported a few months ago that Denis was valued at €50m, but Falk’s reference to the midfielder as a possible bargain will certainly come as a welcome boost to elite teams.
Zakaria played 31 games across all tournaments the last campaign, chipping in with two goals and two assists, his solid displays helped Monchengladbach secure UCL qualification.
The 23-year-old midfielder is the exactly the kind of versatile talent that could flourish under Jurgen Klopp’s tutelage at Anfield, the player can also be called on in a traditional central midfield role or even as a makeshift centre-back.
As promising as the Swiss midfielder is, it’s not surprising to see Falk identify Zakaria as a possible target from next summer onwards due to Reds current options in the middle of the park.
Christian Falk had to say on Reds interest in Denis. “I know that Liverpool have their eyes on Zakaria from Borussia Mönchengladbach. This is a very talented player who will hit the market next year. A move to the Premier League is easy for him to imagine.”
Denis is very comfortable on the ball for a defensive midfielder, something that will no doubt appeal to top teams in the near future. In this afternoon’s press conference, Jurgen Klopp stated that it’s ‘nice’ to be linked with a footballer like Thiago Alcantara before playing down the talks with his ‘but that’s all’ comment.
