Liverpool held talks with 24-year-old German midfielder

The Merseyside giants have made contact with Borussia Monchengladbach regarding Florian Neuhaus. The German manager is thought to be determined to sign the young midfielders, as he continues his search for the replacement of Gini Wijnaldum.

The Reds are yet to table an offer for Germany international, but the footballer is expected to cost more than €40m. Neuhaus also has no release clause embedded in his deal, meaning Gladbach will have the license to drive up their asking fee, should the footballer performs well in the UEFA Euro 2020.

The club’s interest in Florian stems from the departure of their star footballer Georginio Wijnaldum. Wijnaldum made the decision to see out his deal with Reds this past campaign, before joining PSG in a free transfer.

Gini’s departure has left Anfield shallow in midfield, especially with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain facing an uncertain future at the club. The English midfielder is reportedly a subject of interest for West Ham United, with a potential departure from Anfield leaving Jurgen Klopp devoid of options in the middle of the park.

As such, the German manager is desperate to sign new faces in midfield this summer, in addition to defenders. He particularly favours creative options who can offer balls in behind the opposition backline as well as acting as a ball-carrier in half-spaces. It makes Neuhaus the perfect option for Liverpool as the Gladbach starlet is capable of both.

A central midfielder by trade, the former Fortuna Dusseldorf prodigy has enjoyed terrific success at Borussia Park since arriving in 2017. The German midfielder has become a first-team regular for the Foals for three reasons now, notching up 116 competitive games for the club.
